Early Literacy for Dual Language Learners in Early Childhood Education
Join the authors of the National Committee on Effective Literacy research brief for an in-depth conversation on the unique language and early literacy needs of young dual language learners. Grounded in research on bilingual and biliteracy development, panelists will share developmentally, culturally, and linguistically responsive practices that create language-rich environments and foster meaningful early literacy engagement. The discussion will explore how these approaches build the critical precursor skills for reading and writing, and reflect on implications within the context of current Science of Reading practices and policies.

  • Dr. Socorro Herrera, Center for Intercultural and Multilingual Advocacy (CIMA), Kansas State University
  • Dr. Martha Martínez, SEAL (Sobrato Early Academic Language)
