Launched in 2008 with support from Sobrato Philanthropies, SEAL was created to transform how schools support English Learners and Multilingual Learners from the earliest grades. What began as a model program focused on powerful language development, rigorous and meaningful curriculum, and culturally responsive instruction has grown into a thriving, independent nonprofit. Over more than a decade of deep partnership with schools, research, and continuous learning, SEAL has helped improve student outcomes and build more inclusive, engaging school communities. Through this work, one thing has become clear: when schools center language, culture, and community, English Learners don’t just succeed—they thrive. Along the way, we’ve identified eight key lessons about what it truly takes to create schools where multilingual learners flourish. Download to read more about these key lessons.
